Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the treatment of emotional and psychological disorders that helps to release unwanted habits and undesirable feelings by using psychological techniques and hypnotic language patterns. The aim of the therapy is to assist in finding meaningful alternatives to present unsatisfactory ways of thinking, feeling or behaving.
How Does Hypnotherapy Help People?
The ability to reprogram emotional attitudes and reactions is a latent talent within every human being and that ability lies deep in the unconscious mind. Hypnosis in therapy form is a wonderful relaxing and perfectly natural way to get in touch with the unconscious mind and help it to let go of an unwanted emotion, like a fear or a phobia for example, and replace that unwanted feeling with a much more pleasant one, and of course with this can come a lifetime of freedom from emotional and physical problems that the conscious mind is unable to change.
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state of mind. It may surprise you to know that we all go into a hypnotic state at least 120 times a day. This happens when we are 'daydreaming' or when we become totally involved in a book, or whilst watching something interesting on the television where we become completely oblivious to the outside world. We also experience this hypnotic state just as we go to sleep, it is that feeling we get when our minds are drifting, and we experience it once again as we begin to wake up.
How Does Hypnosis Work?
Hypnosis uses various very powerful language patterns that encourage the mind and body to unwind to a much deeper level that when in full conscious awareness, when this happens there is a kind of “Loosening of the mind” where it becomes incredibly easy to remove old unwanted habits fears and phobias etc. forever.
What Happens During the Hypnotic Session?
First of all I will use suggestions that will help you to unwind, I will also play some relaxing music, and as you relax your body your mind will automatically relax, and as your body and mind relaxes you will find yourself going steadily into the hypnotic state. The depth of the hypnotic state varies from person to person. Some people go much deeper than others, but how deeply a person goes does not affect the result of the therapy.
What Does it Feel Like to Hypnotised?
Every experience of trance varies, some people say that their body feels like a lead weight and others say they feel as though they're floating away, but in general most people say that it's a lovely experience because it allows them to feel deeply relaxed in fact, it can often be the deepest relaxation that they have ever experienced.Whatever level of trance you may drift into you will be in complete control.
Try Some Self Hypnosis
Do not do this if you are driving or doing anything that requires your full attention.
Find a nice comfortable place to rest.
1) Close your eyes and relax.
2) Start to count down from ten to one.
3) Take a deep comfortable breath in through your nose on ten.
4) Fill your lungs with air.
5) Hold that breath for a mental count of three.
6) Then slowly let go of that breath out through your mouth.
7) Again breathe in through your nose on the count of nine.
8) Hold that breath for a mental count of three.
9) Continue this process until you reach the count of one, when you will feel nicely relaxed and comfortably hypnotised.
Here are a few tips to help you succeed
1) Once your eyes are closed and you begin to count down starting with the number ten, just begin to imagine that the number is floating and drifting around in front of you.
2) Then let the number drift away as you hold that breath for the mental count of three.
3) You can easily imagine the number fading as you allow that breath to be slowly released. You could even imagine blowing the number away from you while at the same time saying silently inyour mind the word relax, and just allow that word to last as long as it takes that breath to totally leave your body.
4) Then continue in the same way until you reach the count of one.
5) While you are continuing to breathe and relax, it might help you to relax a little deeper if you were to imagine that the air that was gently flowing into your lungs, had a colour. A deep relaxing colour perhaps, a colour that might represent to you a feeling of peace and tranquility, or a deep sense of comfort and well -being.
6) Once you have imagined the colour that feels right for you, then it might be easy for you to imagine that as the relaxing colour flows into your body, you could actually feel it flowing through and around your body. It might feel warm and comforting, or cool and refreshing, or you may feel a slight tingling sensation flowing around you as you breathe in, or maybe you just experience a wonderful deep sense of relaxation filling your inner being.
It is recommended that we should give ourselves the benefit of self-hypnosis about every 90 mins. during the day. It is a wonderful way to help us unwind, relax and clear our minds and even help us to feel more energised almost as if we had just awoken from a very long, deep and restful sleep.
Because our minds are clearer once in this very relaxed state, problems can be solved and tensions and anxieties can be released.
